1. Lewis Hamilton

Country: UK
Team: Mercedes
Former teams: McLaren
Race wins: 84
Number of entries: 250

Lewis Hamilton is one of the best Formula 1 drivers of all time. The only driver that has more World Championship titles is Michael Schumacher (Six compared to Schumacher’s seven titles). Given what has happened to Schumacher and the fact he no longer drives in F1, there’s a great chance for Hamilton to reach his record in 2020. Hamilton has been driving for Mercedes since 2013 and he had tremendous success with it.

  • Lewis Hamilton has won six titles in Formula One (2nd best driver)
  • He has an opportunity to get seven titles in 2020 and join Schumacher on the top of the list of most successful drivers
  • Lewis Hamilton started his career in McLaren but drives for Mercedes since 2013

2. Kimi Raikkonen

Country: Finland
Team: Alfa Romeo
Former teams: Sauber, McLaren, Ferrari, Lotus
Race wins: 21
Number of entries: 315

One of the things that make Kimi Raikkonen different is his temper. He manages to stay ice-cold on the track and in his private life and that’s why people started calling him Iceman. The 40-year old Finnish driver is part of the Alfa Romeo team since 2019.

He ended up in the 12th position last year, but we should mention that he had an outstanding record in the past like in 2007 when he won the Championship. Keep in mind that Kimi has been part of Formula 1 since 2001.

  • One of the most famous Formula One drivers
  • Raikkonen was once part of NASCAR too
  • He joined Alfa Romeo Racing team in 2019

3. Pierre Gasly

Country: France
Team: AlphaTauri
Former teams: Toro Rosso, Red Bull
Race wins: 0
Number of entries: 47

Pierre Gasly is a French Formula 1 driver who is trying to follow the steps of Alain Prost, but we can all agree that he didn’t have that luck in these few years since he joined F1. Of course, he is still young (born in 1996), so there’s enough time for him to shine.

Gasly is also one of the drivers on our drivers 2020 list that has not won a race so far. Before he joined F1, he was part of Formula E, GP2 Series, Formula Renault and he was also a successful karting driver.

  • A French driver who is part of AlphaTauri team
  • He is still waiting for his first win
  • Gasly was born in 1996

4. Sebastian Vettel

Country: Germany
Team: Ferrari
Former teams: BMW Sauber, Toro Rosso, Red Bull
Race wins: 53
Number of entries: 241

Ferrari has a team member that all Ferrari fans can be proud of and that’s Sebastian Vettel. He joined Formula 1 in 2006. However, this driver had the best results when he was driving for Red Bull. This was the time when he won four championships.

Since 2015, he is a member of Ferrari and had some solid results too. For instance, he ended up in the 5th position in 2019 (he won one race). Since he is not a very old driver, there’s still time for him for good seasons in the future.

  • Vettel is a quadruple winner of the F1 championship
  • He was driving for a few other teams before joining Ferrari
  • Vettel was born in 1987

5. Romain Grosjean

Country: France/Switzerland
Team: Haas
Former teams: Renault, Lotus
Race wins: 0
Number of entries: 166

It makes sense for a French-Swiss driver to start his Formula 1 career as a Renault driver. But, Romain was a member of the Renault team for just a year. After a short break, he returned to F1 with Lotus. Truth be told, Grosjean is not among the best racers on our drivers 2020 list.

He has never won a race and he ended up in the 18th position in 2019. Another interesting thing about him is that he received a race ban after initiating a pile-up of cars in 2012 (at the Belgian Grand Prix).

  • A French-Swiss driver
  • He was part of Formula 3 and GP2 Series in the past
  • Grosjean drives for Haas since 2016

6. Lando Norris

Country: UK
Team: McLaren
Former teams:
Race wins: 0
Number of entries: 21

If you are wondering why Lando Norris doesn’t have former teams, the reason is simple – this young driver has joined Formula 1 in 2019. So, in 2020 he will have his second season as an F1 driver.

For a rookie, he did well especially when we know that he was driving for a team that has not won anything of value for a long time. In 2019, he ended up in the first ten positions in more than half of the races. This British driver had a few appearances in Formula 4 and Formula 3 in the past.

  • Lando Norris is a British driver
  • He had his first F1 season in 2019
  • He is driving for McLaren

7. Sergio Perez

Country: Mexico
Team: Racing Point
Former teams: Sauber, McLaren
Race wins: 0
Number of entries: 179

As we said before, the F1 drivers 2020 list contains names of drivers that come from different parts of the world and Mexico is not an exception. Sergio Perez is one of the most famous Mexican professional drivers of all time.

He started his career in Formula 1 in 2011. In 2019, Perez did well with his Racing Point team and ended in the 10th position which is higher than expected. Over the years, this driver has competed in Formula Three, GP2 Series, A1 Grand Prix and karting events.

  • The only Formula One driver on the list that comes from Mexico
  • Perez is still waiting to win a race in F1 although he was standing on the podium eight times
  • He ended up on the 10th position in 2019

8. Alexander Albon

Country: Thailand/UK
Team: Red Bull Racing
Former teams: Toro Rosso
Race wins: 0
Number of entries: 21

Born in the UK, this driver with Thai roots was a pleasant surprise last year when he finally made it to Formula 1. So, in 2019 he started his career as an F1 driver. Even though the first 12 races were not that good for him, he managed to end up in the top six drivers in almost all the remaining races. Alexander Albon is one of the youngest drivers on this list and judging by his first year, there’s a bright future ahead of him.

  • Albon joined Formula One in 2019
  • He is driving for Red Bull Racing
  • Alexander Albon ended up on the solid 8th position in 2019

9. Daniel Ricciardo

Country: Australia
Team: Renault
Former teams: HRT, Toro Rosso, Red Bull
Race wins: 7
Number of entries: 171

After driving for Red Bull Racing for five years, Daniel Ricciardo decided to join team Renault in 2019. It’s still unclear whether he did the right decision because he had slightly better results before (ended up 9th in 2019). In any case, Ricciardo is an interesting driver with a unique style of driving. He has managed to win seven races so far and he also stepped up on the podium 29 times. That’s a good record for this Australian driver born in 1989.

  • Ricciardo spent most of his current career in Red Bull Racing
  • He has won seven F1 races
  • He is not driving for Renault

10. Nicholas Latifi

Country: Canada
Team: Williams
Former teams:
Race wins:
Number of entries:

Now here’s an example of a fresh racer on our Formula 1 drivers 2020 list. This 2020, Nicholas Latifi from Canada will race in Formula One for the first time in his career. Born in 1995, this driver has started his career a relatively long time ago as a karting driver. He also competed in Formula 3, Formula 2 and GP2 Series. Now as part of the Williams team, he hopes to achieve good results as an F1 driver too.

  • A Canadian driver that competes at F1 for the first time
  • He has a relatively long career as a driver
  • Latifi decided to drive for Williams

11. Antonio Giovinazzi

Country: Italy
Team: Alfa Romeo
Former teams: Sauber
Race wins: 0
Number of entries: 23

It makes sense for an Italian driver to be part of an Alfa Romeo team, but Antonio Giovinazzi actually started his career as a Sauber driver in 2017. Even though he has competed in Formula 1 for three seasons, it’s worth mentioning that the only “real” season for him was in 2019 when he was driving for Alfa Romeo.

Before that, he was either driving as a replacement for other drivers or as a test driver. So, Giovinazzi’s record is not impressive (17th position in 2019), but hopefully, things will get better for him in 2020.

  • Giovinazzi started his F1 career in 2017
  • He was driving for Sauber before joining Alfa Romeo
  • He ended up in the 17th position in 2019

12. Daniil Kvyat

Country: Russia
Team: AlphaTauri
Former teams: Toro Rosso, Red Bull, Ferrari
Race wins: 0
Number of entries: 95

The only Russian driver on the Formula 1 drivers 2020 list has been competing in this championship since 2014. Before joining AlphaTauri he was driving for Ferrari. Kvyat has never been on the F1 podium despite the fact that he was part of almost 100 races.

Yet, it’s worth mentioning that 2019 was one of his best seasons (he ended in the 13th place). Daniil Kvyat has won a few Formula Renault championships and one GP3 Series.

  • Kvyat is a Russian Formula 1 driver
  • He joined F1 in 2014
  • Kvyat was part of the Ferrari team for one year

13. Charles Leclerc

Country: Monaco
Team: Ferrari
Former teams: Sauber
Race wins: 2
Number of entries: 42

When Charles Leclerc joined Formula One in 2018, he was just 20 years old. Obviously, he is still a young driver and the fact that he has already won two interesting races gives us hope that this racer has a promising career.

The same goes if we analyze his performance since he ended up in the 13th place in 2018 and in the 4th place in 2019. Ferrari recognized his talent and decided to hire him in 2019.

  • Leclerc is a Monegasque national
  • He was driving in Formula One for two years (since 2018)
  • He is part of the famous Ferrari team

14. Kevin Magnussen

Country: Denmark
Team: Haas
Former teams: McLaren, Renault
Race wins: 0
Number of entries: 103

It turns out that there are good Formula One drivers in Denmark too. To be honest, Kevin Magnussen can do way better than what we have seen from him in the last five seasons and the guys from Haas also hope to see better results in 2020.

An interesting thing about Magnussen is that at his first race in 2014 as part of McLaren he ended up in second place. Sadly, that is his best result after six years spent in F1.

  • A Danish F1 driver
  • He was part of over 100 Formula 1 races
  • Kevin is the son of Jan Magnussen, an ex F1 driver

15. Carlos Sainz Jr.

Country: Spain
Team: McLaren
Former teams: Toro Rosso, Renault
Race wins: 0
Number of entries: 102

Carlos Sainz Jr. has been driving in Formula One since 2015. His initial season was not very good since he ended up in the 15th place which was a surprise since the won the Formula Renault 3.5 Series a year before that. Of course, F1 is a completely different beast. After more than 100 races, Sainz’s fans are still waiting for him to win a race at Formula One.

The good thing is that he was close to doing this in 2019 when he won third place in the Brazilian Grand Prix. Obviously, switching to McLaren was a positive thing for him because he had the best result in his career at the end of the season – 6th position.

  • Carlos Sainz Jr. is a former Formula 3, GP3 Series and Formula Renault 3.5 Series driver
  • The third place at the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix is his best result so far
  • He is now competing for McLaren

16. Valtteri Bottas

Country: Finland
Team: Mercedes
Former teams: Williams
Race wins: 7
Number of entries: 140

It seems that Bottas is in the shadow of his teammate Hamilton, but we can all agree that he is also a very good driver. It’s no wonder why with a team like this, Mercedes manages to win constructors’ championships in the last few years easily.

Bottas started his career in Williams where he was driving for four seasons. But, once he joined Mercedes in 2017 he got the best scores. In 2019, he made the best result so far by winning 326 points which secured him the second position right after Lewis Hamilton.

  • Another Finnish driver on the F1 drivers 2020 list
  • He had the best season in 2019
  • Bottas has won seven Formula One races

17. Lance Stroll

Country: Canada
Team: Racing Point
Former teams: Williams
Race wins: 0
Number of entries: 62

Lance Stroll is one of the youngest racers on our Formula 1 drivers 2020 list. He was born in 1998 in Canada and started his career in Formula 3. Since 2017 when he was just 19 years old he became a driver for Williams.

That year, he managed to end up in third place at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. He had a relatively bad season in 2018 (18th position) and a mediocre one in 2019 (15th position). Racing Point hopes that 2020 will allow him to show his talent and skills.

  • One of the youngest F1 drivers
  • He comes from Canada
  • He was a Formula 3 racer before switching to F1

18. Max Verstappen

Country: The Netherlands
Team: Red Bull Racing
Former teams: Toro Rosso
Race wins: 8
Number of entries: 102

There are a few things that make Max Verstappen, the popular Dutch Formula 1 driver, extraordinary. For instance, even though he joined F1 in 2014, he managed to finish a whole season in 2015 when he became the youngest full-time driver.

In 2016 he broke another record – the became the youngest race winner (The Spanish Grand Prix). Verstappen’s 2019 season was the best season in his career – he ended in the 3rd position and won three races, something that he has never achieved before.

  • A very young and already successful Formula One driver
  • He is a Red Bull Racing team driver
  • He won eight races so far

19. Esteban Ocon

Country: France
Team: Renault
Former teams: Manor, Force India, Mercedes
Race wins: 0
Number of entries: 50

Esteban Ocon is a Renault F1 driver that comes from France. He was just 19 years old when he raced for the first time (2016). Although he is a young driver, he switched a few teams in this career.

This is the only person on this F1 drivers 2020 list that has changed his team before the 2020 season. Before he started his Formula One career, Ocon has been competing on karting events, Formula Renault, DTM, GP3 Series and Formula Three events.

  • Ocon joined Renault before the 2020 season
  • He is a young French driver
  • He didn’t make any outstanding result so far

20. Geroge Russel

Country: UK
Team: Williams
Former teams:
Race wins: 0
Number of entries: 21

Someone has to end the season in the last place, right? George Russel ended in the 20th position in his first season at Formula One. But, he is definitely not disappointed because he belongs to the group of very young F1 drivers (born in 1998).

Just like last season, Russel will drive for Williams in 2020 too. It’s good to know that this driver started his career in karting followed by racing at Formula Renault, Formula 4, Formula 3, Formula 2 and GP3 Series.

  • Russel was the last driver on the final list of season 2019 in Formula One
  • He has a good junior career
  • He is driving for Williams
