Sam was born on the 2nd of July 1986 in Nottinghamshire, UK. He is best known for being second-placed in the Big One for One Drop event where he lost against Antonio Esfandiari, but also scooped a massive money prize worth $10 million.

He is not only one of the most successful British poker players, but also one of the most successful players in the world with live cash earnings exceeding $20 million. Earnings-wise, he is placed second on the United Kingdom all money list on the GPI following closely the first-placed Stephen Chidwick.

Sam began playing poker for fun back in 2005 when a serious knee injury ended his career as a footballer. Soon enough, he became a regular player in Sheffield-held poker events. Just three years later, young Sam was crowned the winner of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour 2008 Main Event for which he scooped around $215.178 in winnings.

It also should be noted that Sam has seven money finishes in the forty-first World Series of Poker tournaments. Back in 2010, Sam decided to take part in high-stakes live poker tournaments alongside other big names such as Phil Ivey, John Juanda, and Tom Dwan.

He won around £1 million in these high-stakes games. Just one year later, Trickett won slightly over $3 million in several no-limit hold’em poker tournaments. In addition to making it to the final tables at both WSOP and EPT events, Sam also boasts a runner-up and a win in another prominent event, the Aussie Millions $250K and $100K events as well as a win in the Partouche Poker Tour 2011 for around €1 million.

3. Talal Shakerchi

With total live earnings which exceed $7 million, Talal Shakerchi is another prominent British poker player who surely deserves his spot on this list of the best British poker players of all times. In addition to being focused on his career as a professional poker player, Talal is also an investment manager. Before focusing on his poker career, Talal founded his company named Meditor Capital Management Limited back in 1998.

Besides being a successful investment manager, Talal also found some success in the poker industry. He started his poker career by playing online poker tournaments under his nickname raidalot. Back in May of 2016, he won the Spring Championship of Online Poker in the PokerStars Main Event for a money prize of around $1.5 million.

In fact, Talal won almost $5 million on playing online poker tournaments on PokerStars. As of 2007, Talal also takes place in a number of live poker tournaments including Shakerchi live tournaments. It should be noted that he exclusively plays high-roller live poker tournaments with buy-ins of $10,000 and higher.

Back in 2008, Talal appeared in the WSOP for the first time. As of 2019, he has eleven World Series of Poker cashes and three European Poker Tour cashes. His biggest money prize of $1.1 million came after being fourth-placed at the Super High Roller Bowl $300,000 No Limit Hold’em event held in Las Vegas.

Furthermore, back in January 2019, Talal made it to the final table in the PokerStars Players Championship Caribbean Adventure event where he scooped around $509.000 in money prize. Following his retirement, he also appeared on the PCA Super High Roller $ 100,000 No Limit Hold’em event Caribbean Adventure where he placed fifth for $485.300 in money prize.

Known by his nickname the Devilfish, Dave Ulliot has managed to accomplish great things in the industry. Devilfish was born on the 1st of April in 1954 in Kingston upon Hull and he passed away at the age of sixty-one on the 6th of April 2015 due to cancer.

The later Dave could fill numerous articles on his reckless lifestyle and later on his accomplishments in the industry. Before deciding to fully focus on his career as a professional poker player, Dave was involved in small-time crimes including theft.

He became a thief after being fired from his regular, full-time job for taking too much time off to gamble. At one point, he lost £5 at his local bookmakers which made him return that same day to rob the place. Eventually, his reckless lifestyle including robberies caught up with him.

After spending around nine months in prison, he returned to his old ways and spend another eighteen months hailed before he decided to turn his life around.

Dave has always been a gambler and a poker player since a very young age. However, he decided to take the game of poker professionally later on in his life. This has proven to be a great decision as the great Devilfish will win one World Series of Poker and one World Poker Tour titles among many other notable accomplishments.

He is also one of the most legendary British poker players of all time as well as one of the biggest contributors to spreading the game of poker in European countries. Following his amazing successes in the industry, Dave appears on the Late Night Poker series. The audience just loved his gangster-like persona. Soon enough, Dave became a household name in the United Kingdom.

Just like many other legendary names in the industry, the Devilfish was induced to the Poker Hall of Fame back in 2017. In addition to winning one WSOP bracelet and one WPT title, Dave was also first-placed at the Euro Finals of Poker held in Paris 2009 € 5,000 No Limit Hold’em – Diamond Championship for €133.880.

He also won the Christmas Cracker held in London 1996 £100 No Limit Hold’em event. After winning his first and only World Series of Poker bracelet back in 1997, he participated in a number of other cash games. When it comes to his World Poker Tour title, Dace won his biggest cash prize in the WPT season one Jack Binion World Poker Union.

Before making it to the final table, the Devilfish outlasted almost two hundred players before he took victorious first place after eliminating great Phil Ivey. His total live earnings exceeded $6 million.

As of August of 2017, Moorman is the leader in online poker tournament cash earnings as he passed the $14 million earning mark.

It also should be noted that Moorman is also the only player in the online poker industry with online earnings which exceed $10 million. Hence, he is placed sixth on the United Kingdom’s all-time money list.

Moorman is definitely a true legend in the online poker industry especially since he became the very first player in history to accumulate more than $10 million playing online poker tournaments.

It should be noted that his accomplishments do not come only from online poker tournaments as he is active in live tournaments as well with two remarkable winnings, one WSOP bracelet, and one WPT title. In addition to these successes, Chris also won a runner-up spot in the WSOP 2011 Main Event for €800K.

He won his first World Series of Poker bracelet back in 2017 in the $3,000 NLH 6-handed. Moreover, four of his World Series of Poker appearances in the money finishes were in €10,000 events while five of Moorman’s World Series of Poker money finishes were in six-handed championship events. Before 2011, Moorman was mainly an online poker player at Bodog, Party Poker, Ultimate Bet, Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars.

6. Roland De Wolfe

Before turning to poker as his full-time job, Roland used to work as a full-time writer for Inside Edge which is a popular poker magazine.

Among a number of accomplishments and success, the biggest Ronald’s success is winning World Series of Poker bracelet and one World Poker Tour title. He also has one European Poker Tour title under his sleeve.

Roland was born in 1979 in London, right in the United Kingdom hub. Ronald is currently ranked ninth on the GPI England all-time money list closely following other legendary British poker players including several names listed here.

Under his nickname The Sheep, Ronald has been present in the industry for a relatively short time. During his teenage years, Ronald used to play snooker, poker, and pool. After graduating, he decides to pursue a career in journalism and soon enough he started following prominent poker tournaments, as an Inside Edge journalist.

After being promoted to editor of Inside Edge, he decided to test his skills at the poker tables and soon enough, he realized he was quite good. Ronald won his very first money prize in the prominent Gutshot Poker Festival. Later on, he was in money finishes at the WSOP 2005 $1,000 No Limit.

That same year, Ronald also claimed the WPT Grand Prix de Paris. The very next year, he was placed third out of more than six hundred participants at the World Poker Tour $25,000 Championship at the Bellagio and scooped slightly over $1 million. He was also placed third at the World Series of Poker $2,000 No Limit Hold’em Shootout event.

When it comes to his WSOP accomplishments, in addition to winning one bracelet, he also has seventeen money finishes. He was also successful at World Poker Tour events with one title, two final tables, and four money finishes. As previously mentioned, Ronald also won one European Poker Tour title among his five EPT money finishes. Fans of Late Night Poker may also remember Ronald making it to the final table in the show’s 2008 edition.

7. Jake Cody

Jake Cody is a professional British poker player with one World Series of Poker bracelet and one World Poker Tour title. With total live earnings which exceed $4 million and a number of notable accomplishments, Jake surely deserves to appear on this list of the best British poker players.

In fact, he is one of the most impressive, most talented poker players to come out of England. He emerged on the professional poker scene back in 2010 when he entered the EPT scene with several major wins. First of all, he won the EPT event held in Deauville and scooped around €857.000.

He was also the winner of the WPT held in London in August 2010 where he pocketed an extra of £273.783. In one interview, Jake revealed that he started his career in online poker games by spending only $10 before he decided to focus on getting his college degree.

He was a regular psychology student before he dropped out to pursue a career as a professional poker player. In order to be able to play live poker tournaments, he has to work for twelve hours per day while at the same time he was focused on refining his poker strategy.

His first minor success came when he won a small amount in the Grosvenor UK Poker Side Tour held in April of 2009. That same year, Jake also made some money at the UK and Ireland Poker Tour event held in Galway. Just one month later, his career took a massive boost as Jake took home around €857.000 for winning the €5,000 EPT Deauville Main Event.

Later on, Jake had some minor cashes at UK and Ireland Poker Tour events before he won the WPT Main Event held in London. Jake also defeated Nichlas Mattsson in the £5,000 buy-in event held at the Palm Beach Casino and scooped around £273.783 in money prize.

His amazing successes and achievements were recognized by the European Poker Awards, so he was named both the Rookie of the Year and Poker Player of the Year.

Later on, Jake will also make it to the final table at the UKIPT £1,500 High Roller tournament and take home £34.200. The next year, Jake won his first World Series of Poker bracelet in the $25,000 Heads-Up No-Limit Hold’em.

Back in 2011, he signed a deal with PKR.com while two years later he became a member of the PokerStars Pro team. He is very active in online poker tournaments playing under his nickname jakecody. As of 2019, his live earnings exceed $4 million.

8. Liv Boeree

Playing under her nickname Iron Maiden, Liv Boeree won one World Series of Poker bracelet as well as one European Poker Tour title. In addition to being a professional poker player, Liv is also a television presenter, writer, and speaker.

It should be noted that Liv is the only female poker player to hold both a WSOP bracelet and an EPT title. Before she decided to pursue a career as a professional poker player, Liv earned her Physics degree at the University of Manchester.

When it comes to her poker career, she started on the TV show named UltimatePoker Showdown. She was one of five contestants elected. The show aired in 2005. At the show, Liv was coached by legendary players including Dave Ulliot, Annie Duke and Phil Hellmuth.

Five years after her appearance at the show, Liv won the EPT main event held in 2010 in Sanremo. She scooped around €1.2 million in money prize and became the third female player to win a European Poker Tour title.  Seven years later, Liv won the World Series of Poker 2017 $10,000 Tag Team No Limit Hold’em Championship event for around $273.964.

Her other notable results include a second placed in the UKIPT 2014 Edinburgh Main Event, third place in the European Poker Tour High Roller Event held in Barcelona and first place on Poker After Dark tournament held in 2017.

Following her amazing successes, Liv was named the Female Player of the Year by the European Poker Awards three years in a row including 2014, 2015 and 2016. Prior to this, she was named Europe’s Leading Lady also by the European Poker Awards in 2010.

As of 2010, she has been one of the PokerStars Pro Team members. As of 2019, her live earnings exceed $3 million. Currently, she is working full-time as the Global Poker League’s London Royals Team Manager.
